Blue Mystery
This pepper is one of the most confusing to identify. In spite of our experience in growing peppers, we can’t identify this one, what capsicum family it belongs to, or whether it is wild or domesticated. It is mystery all the way around, what is even more spooky is that we don’t know where in the world it came from… The story for this peppers started back on May 2010 we had some cactus plants growing in a planter on the front porch, we noticed some grass growing around them so I started pulling the grass and cleaning around the cactuses . As I was cleaning, I noticed what about 5 of them looked like small pepper seedlings. They were all gathered in one bunch. I pulled them all out and just kept this one to see what it kind it was… I thought it was just one of the extra or old pepper seeds we dropped somewhere or lost. So as the plant started to grow bigger leafs made me think is it was Capsicum Baccatum. As the plant started setting flowers I realized this is not Capsicum Baccatum anymore. The flower looked like capsicum Eximium or capsicum cardenasii which both are wild peppers with blue purple/flower but it is not either one because we grow both and we know how they look like. This plant with an unidentified name, species, or origin is for those who like to experiment growing weird, different and unknown peppers. Even the flavor and heat is different, it has the sharp wild Capsicum Eximium heat with a hint of sweetness from Capsicum Baccatum. What we know is plant gets HUGE over 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Extremely prolific and pods everywhere makes it useful Capsicum Sp. For cooking or making powder if you like the sharp biting heat of wild species and the sweetness of the domesticated Capsicum Baccatum. |
