The Malagueta PI 497984
The Malagueta and the Malaga Bird are one and the same pepper. It is often confused with the African Malagueta Pepper. It is a small, very hot tapered pepper that turns from dark green to bright red. It is about 1" in length at maturity. They are from 60,000-100,000 on the scoville heat scale. These are the basis of all bird's eye peppers such as Zimbabwe bird and Malawi bird. The smaller peppers are called piri-piri in Portugal and the larger ones are the Malagueta from Brazil. 120-130 days to reach maturity. Could be classified as wild plant, the plant leafs are very green the makes beautiful ornamental landscape.
